The M5 is legendary and this model year is the last of that classic BMW design and it doesn’t disappoint. Some might argue that this year is a collectible since the 04 models are the beginning of a totally revamped body style and you can certainly make a case to support that claim.
With 400HP under the hood there is little lacking with regard to performance. Six speed manual transmission as the only option limits its broad appeal but then again the M5 is not trying to please everybody. Classic, traditional BMW lines and take no prisoners performance put you in an exclusive club. The amenities of a daily driver and the performance of a super car at what now will be bargain basement prices. This car will embarrass many as it relates to performance at any price.
MSRP New: $85,700.00
PMPR (Poor Man Price Range): $17,000.00 - $44,000.00
Current Body Style: No…current body style launched in model year 2006
National Inventory: 27
For: Four door practicality with everyday drivability, sports car performance and classic BMW styling.
Against: Seven years old and no manual for the automatic transmission lovers
Single Poor Man POV: 400HP and a six-speed manual and a BMW…do I have to explain?
Married Poor Man POV: Runs with anything new on the road for less than half the price, has a back seat to accommodate passengers and unlike the institution of marriage you don’t have to compromise on this one but you might have to teach the wife how to drive a stick. That compromise is called marriage and has nothing to do with the car!
Divorced Poor Man POV: If child support payments are hampering your ability to afford a fun car then this budget barnyard burner will be the cure for that. Fun to drive affordable and accommodates four.
Curb Appeal: 7
Bottom Line: Despite it’s age this is still a car that is fairly reliable and a ton of fun to drive. If you don’t need to put major miles on it you can have it as your daily driver. Works even better as the weekend toy and there are lots of mods and accessories to be had to personalize it.
