The Aston Martin brand has a rich history of building sexy sports cars that deliver both performance and a mix of British heritage and pride from across the pond in England. Most of us here in the states associate Aston Martins with one of America’s favorite secret agents, James Bond 007. A lot has happened to the brand over the years as it has been bought and sold several times changing hands from it’s British heritage to US ownership (PAG – Premium Auto Group owned by the Ford Motor Company) and most recently independently owned. Aston Martin has a brand new four door sedan called the Rapide which is certainly a new entry for them as they are most noted for their two door sports cars. The Rapide has been well received by auto journalists and has gotten great reviews by most.
There have been many adjectives used to describe the Rapide. Gorgeous, beautiful, stunning are just a few. Others have described it as a stretched out DB9. Here is where I’d like to hit the pause button and touch upon this design philosophy. Some might argue my opinion on this but view it as food for thought versus me being overly critical of it’s design.
As an independent, Aston Martin has done a great job producing great looking high performance luxury sports cars and coupes while maintaining profitability. However, like most other companies they are running a business and the goal is to sustain profitability as well as grow the brand and market share.
